Diedrich is the son of sculptor Gretta Bader (born Margaret Marie Lange) and political activist William B. Bader (born William Banks Bader).
Diedrich’s paternal grandfather was Edward Lawrence Bader, Jr. (the son of Edward Lawrence Bader, Sr. and Katherine/Kathryn A. Holvick). Edward, Sr. was the son of Daniel Bader and Sarah F. Boyle. Katherine was the daughter of John Holvick and Anna/Annie.
