Terry McAuliffe is an American politician and businessperson. A member of the Democratic Party, he has served as Governor of Virginia, since January 11, 2014, and Chair of the National Governors Association, since July 16, 2016. He was previously Chair of the Democratic National Committee, from February 3, 2001 to February 12, 2005.
Terry is the son of Mildred Katherine “Millie” (Lonergan) and John Emmett “Jack” McAuliffe.
Terry’s paternal grandfather was Emmett Robert McAuliffe (the son of Thomas McAuliffe and Mary Ellen Herald). Thomas was Irish, the son of Bartholomew Eugene McAuliffe and Ellen Foley. Terry’s great-grandmother Mary Ellen was born in Ontario, Canada, to Irish parents, Dennis Herald and Margaret Denean.
Terry’s paternal grandmother was Mary Slattery. Mary was born in New York, to Irish parents.
