Randy Bachman is a Canadian musician. He is known as the lead guitarist for the rock bands The Guess Who and Bachman–Turner Overdrive.
His father, Karl “Charles/Charlie” Bachman, was of German (including Black Sea German) descent. Some sources state that his mother, Anna “Nancy” (Dobrinsky), was of Ukrainian descent, based on her own parents’ geographical origins. However, her parents’ surnames indicate that she was of Polish descent.
Randy has seven children with his former wife, Lorayne Gay Stevenson, the oldest of whom is musician Tal Bachman. He also has a daughter with his former wife, Canadian-American singer and songwriter Denise Eliane Helene McCann.
Randy’s paternal grandfather was Emil Wilhelm Bachmann (the son of Friedrich Wilhelm Emil Bachmann and Wilhelmine Dorothea Henriette Paul). Friedrich was a German emigrant, from Biere (now part of Bördeland), Saxony-Anhalt, and was the son of Heinrich Friedrich Wilhelm Theodor Bachmann and Catharine Dorothee Ziem. Wilhelmine was also a German emigrant, from Thale, Saxony-Anhalt, and was the daughter of Carl Paul and Konstantine Spönemann.
Randy’s paternal grandmother was Ellen Charlotte Luise Kendel (the daughter of Jacob Kendel and Caroline Schramm). Jacob was an German emigrant, from Landestreu, Galicia (now Zelenyi Yar, Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast, Ukraine), and was the son of Johann Konrad Kendel and Maria Katharina Adam. Caroline was also German.
Randy’s maternal grandfather was Stefan Dobrzyński (later Dobrinsky, the son of Mikołaj Dobrzyński and Maria Anna). Stefan was a Polish emigrant, from Novosilka, Ternopil Oblast, Ukraine.
Randy’s maternal grandmother was Pelagia Stecka (the daughter of Jan Stecka and Anna). Pelagia was a Polish emigrant, from Tovste, Ternopil Oblast.
