Bertolt Brecht was a German theatre practitioner, playwright, and poet.
Bertolt was the son of Wilhelmine (Brezing), from Roßberg, Ebsdorfergrund, Gießen, Hessen, and Berthold Friedrich Brecht, from Achern, Freiburg, Baden-Württemberg.
Bertolt was married to actress Helene Weigel, until his death. He had a son with his former partner Paula Banholzer; a daughter, actress Hanne Hiob, with his former wife, opera singer and actress Marianne Zoff; and two children, poet, critic and scholar of theatre Stefan Brecht and actress Barbara Brecht-Schall, with Helene.
Bertolt’s paternal grandparents were Stephan Berthold Brecht and Karoline Wurzler.
Bertolt’s maternal grandfather was Joseph Friedrich Brezing (the son of Christian Gottlieb Brezing). Christian was the son of Georg Friedrich Brezing.
