Douglas “Doug” James Burgum is an American entrepreneur and politician. He is a member of the Republican Party and has been Governor of North Dakota, since December 15, 2016. He is the founder of Kilbourne Group and co-founder of Arthur Ventures.

Doug was born on August 1, 1956 in Arthur, North Dakota, U.S. on to father Joseph Boyd Burgum and mother Katherine Kilbourne. He was married to Katherine Stroker from 1991 to 2003, with whom he has three children. He married Kathryn Helgaas in 2016.

Doug’s paternal grandfather was Joseph Arthur Burgum. He was the son of Arthur “Anthony” Thomas Burgum and Ann Harper Bradley. Anthony was the son of William Burgum and Edith Bowery. Ann was the daughter of Aaron Bradley and Elizabeth Harper.

Doug’s paternal grandmother was Jessamine Slaughter. She was the daughter of Benjamin Franklin Slaughter and Malinda “Linda” Louise Warfel. Benjamin’s parents are unknown. Linda was the daughter of Charles Warfel and Mary “Mariah” Maria Boyd.

Doug’s maternal grandfather was Burton Kane Kilbourne. He was the son of Ferdinand Kilbourne and Martha Jane Feltt. Ferdinand was the son of Henry Kilbourne and Fanny Briggs. Martha was the daughter of Amasa Feltt and Elizabeth Young Dewey.

Doug’s maternal grandmother was Daisy Conwell. She was the daughter of Abraham Louis Conwell and Catharine Ann Higgins. Abraham was the son of James A. Conwell and Harriet Conner. Catharine was the daughter of James Higgins and Lucina Craig.
