Vera-Ellen was an American dancer and actress. She is known for her roles in the films On the Town, White Christmas, The Kid from Brooklyn, Love Happy, The Belle of New York, Call Me Madam, and Let’s Be Happy, among others.
She was the daughter of Alma Catherine and Martin Friedrich Rohe. She had a daughter with her former husband, Victor Rothschild, a millionaire, of the Rothschild family.
Vera-Ellen’s paternal grandfather was Hermann Christian Rohe (the son of Heinrich Conrad Rohe and Engel Maria Dorothea Hinze). Hermann was born in Illinois, to German parents. Heinrich was the son of Johann Otto Rohe and Catharina Engel Maria Charlotta Ohlendorf, who were from Hohnhorst, Schaumburg, Lower Saxony. Engel was born in Schaumburg.
