Pendleton Ward is an American animator, screenwriter, director, and voice actor. He is known for creating the animated series Adventure Time, Bravest Warriors, and The Midnight Gospel.
He is the son of Bettie, an artist, and Scott Johnston.
Pendleton’s paternal grandfather was Harold J. Johnston (the son of John Henry Johnston and Thressa Catherine McCarthy). Harold was born in Gagetown, Michigan. Pendleton’s great-grandfather John was the son of Canadian parents, William Johnston, whose own parents were Scottish, and Mary Cecelia Mosack, whose parents were of German, including Alsatian, descent. Thressa was the daughter of Thomas McCarthy, who was Irish, and of Margaret Jane Dillon, who was born in Ontario, Canada, also to Irish parents.
Pendleton’s paternal grandmother was Elizabeth Jane McHenry (the daughter of Claude Herbert McHenry and Sadie Sarah Rabideau). Elizabeth was born in Gagetown, Michigan. Claude was the son of Peter Calvin McHenry and Martha Jane Press, and had Colonial American roots. Sadie was the daughter of Cyrille Casper Robideau and Lowentine Lajoie, who were French-Canadian.
