Family Background: Andrew VanWyngarden is an American singer, songwriter, and musician. He is a member of the rock band MGMT. Andrew is the son of Frances H. and Bruce N. VanWyngarden, a journalist and editor of the alternative newspaper Memphis Flyer.

In an interview, Andrew said that he does not know much about his heritage, but that he thinks his great-grandfather was Dutch. His estimation was correct, Andrew’s paternal great-grandfather, Rudolph VanWyngarden, was of Dutch descent.

Andrew’s paternal grandparents were William Wells VanWyngarden (the son of Rudolph W. Van Wyngarden and Velma L. Wells) and Montelle Moore (the daughter of Dennis Talmage Moore and Vona Maude Vance). Rudolph was born in Newton, Iowa, to Dutch parents, William Marion Van Wingerden and Jecoba J. Van Leeuwen.
