Ian Keaggy is an American singer, songwriter, musician, writer, and producer. He was previously the bass guitarist of the pop band Hot Chelle Rae. Other members of the band are Jamie Follese, Ryan Follese, and Nash Overstreet.

Ian is the son of Bernadette/Bernade M. (Markwell) and musician Phil Keaggy (Philip Tyler Keaggy). Ian’s mother is of one half German and one sixteenth Irish descent, with the rest being English, Scottish, and remote Welsh, Dutch, and French. Ian’s father is of one half Irish, one quarter German, and one sixteenth Swiss-German descent, with the rest being English, Scottish, and remote Dutch.

Ian’s surname originates in Switzerland, from his great-great-great-grandfather, John B. Keaggy, a Swiss-German immigrant who was born in 1808. The name was originally spelled “Kägy” or “Kegi”.

Ian’s paternal grandparents were James Henderson Keaggy (the son of David Henderson Keaggy and Emma Esther Steck) and Marguerite Alice Harryhill (the daughter of Martin Andrew Harryhill and Nellie Guyton). Ian’s great-grandmother Emma was born in Pennsylvania, to German parents, George Steck and Margaret Rader/Racer. Martin and Nellie both had Irish ancestry.

Ian’s maternal grandparents were Victor Leo Markwell (the son of Victor Leo Markwell and Cecilia Catherine Dillion) and Bernadette F. “Bernie” German (the daughter of Alexander German and Katharina/Katherine Hauth). Cecilia’s paternal grandfather was Irish, and her maternal grandfather was English. Bernadette was born in Akron, Ohio, to ethnic German parents from Stanišić, Serbia.
