Itamar Franco was a Brazilian politician. A member of the Brazilian Democratic Movement Party, he served as President of Brazil, from 29 December, 1992 to 1 January, 1995.
President Franco was the son of Italia (Cautiero) and Augusto César Stiebler Franco. His mother was born in Taruaçu, Minas Gerais, Brazil, to Italian parents, from Venice, Italy. His father was born in Juiz de Fora, Minas Gerais, Brazil, to a Brazilian father and a German mother.
President Franco’s paternal grandparents were Archimedes Pedreira Franco (the son of Atabalipa Gê Acaiaba Americano da Luz Franco and Amélia Pedreira) and Mathilde Stiebler (the daughter of Karl Adolpho Frederico Stiebler and Marie Henriette Stephane). President Franco’s grandmother Mathilde was born in Hamburg, Germany.
