César Franck was a Belgian-French Romantic composer and organist considered one of the most important French composers, teachers and organists of the second half of the 19th century.

Franck’s paternal ancestors hailed from the Dutch-Belgian-German border region surrounding Limburg and Walloonia. His earliest known patrilineal ancestor, Jehan/Jan Franck (born 1550), held the office of alderman of Montzen.

Franck’s father, Nicolas-Joseph Franck was born in Gemmenich, Duchy of Limburg, to Barthelemy Franck and Isabelle Randaxhe. Randaxhe’s mother, Isabelle Denay/Teney was born in Sint-Martens-Voeren, Flanders.

Franck’s mother, Catherine-Barbe Frings was from Aachen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.
